Achilles Tendon

Achilles Tendon

Achilles tendon is the fibrous tissue that joins the muscles on your lower leg to the heel. The Achilles tendon is subject to your entire body weight everyday while you stand, walk or run. What more, during a push off or sprint, especially on tough terrains, the Achilles tendon are burdened excessively, carrying 3 to 2 times a person’s body weight. Having said that, you need to be careful, as misalignment, improper footwear, overuse, or accidents can lead serious Achilles tendon injuries. Achilles tendon rupture and Achilles tendinosis is the most common Achilles tendon injury.

However, there are various ways to heal your Achilles tendon that include bed rest, muscle strengthening, applying ice and physical therapies such as electrical stimulation, laser photostimulation and ultrasound. In the most severe cases, even surgery is advised by doctors.
