Ankle Sprains

Ankle Sprains

Ankle sprain is a common injury to the ankle. Stretching as well as tearing of ligaments around the ankle under stress of heavy activities on a foot or feet refers to ankle sprain. It often leads to a distorted position of the ankle.

Unstable walking, running on a rough surface and sport activities can cause ankle sprain. You may experience swelling, stiffness and pain on the lateral side of the ankle as symptoms of a sprain. A severe sprain can tear ligaments around the ankle.

Rest is the best healer for an ankle sprain. Elevating the ankle to the level of your heart or compressing it by wrapping or massaging it with ice packs, can relieve symptoms.
